WA#5 Draft 2

Emulating Pablo Neruda

Forgetting

The night closes in on me,
Taking my sanity,
Thoughts running wild,
Of sunshine and beauty,
Like runners, go through me,
To get to the finish line,
The first to be thought and shine
Out to the crowd,
That watches above

My mind’s slowly turning,
A Circus ride spinning
And I’m at the top,
Below are the people,
All crowded and noisy,
Like thoughts come unbidden,
Faintly I hear them,
From my perch up above

I think of my future,
Will I be remembered?
Or will I be forgotten,
Like so many before?

It all seems so senseless,
The life that we’re living,
The dying, forgetting,
A flower in spring,
That dies in the winter,
Has no recollection
Of the summer before
It’s life will not matter,
It’s name soon forgotten,
The place it had stood
Soon covered in snow

I feel insignificant,
Like flowers in winter,
That know one will see,
It’s useless to think,
We can not make a difference,
For know one remembers,
The summer that’s past,
The first leaf to fall,
There are so many others,
Like people on branches,
We all must soon fall.

For things always change,
The seasons, the minutes,
The people in charge,
They try to be better,
Then people before,
But all is forgotten,
A legacy passed down,
Only for so long

Will know one remember,
When years have gone by,
Like cars on a free way,
Their noxious emissions,
Killing our brain cells,
To make us forget?

To forget is to live
Forgetting is normal
So long as you love,
What need you remember?
As long as you love,
Your life is completed,
Things are forgotten,
For love is forever,
Know matter what happens,
And this, I’ll remember
